Matt 6:19-21

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”
Hebrews 13:5-6
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.

Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also
Mark 8: 36
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
DISCUSS:
What things stood out to you as you read over these passages?
Why is a love for money so incompatible with following Jesus?
Given that Greed can be blinding, how can we know if it is a problem for us?
How have you seen a desire for money and possessions choke out a love for Jesus in your life?
How have you seen a desire for Christ choke out a love for money and possessions?
How can you practice contentment and live simply?
Encourage the group to look at the stewardship section of the plan to thrive this week to think more deeply about how to be generous this year.
PRAY (TOGETHER OR IN SMALL GROUPS) In response to the following two questions.
1. What is one area that you are struggling to trust God with your finances?
2. What is one way you would like to be more generous this year?
