ROMANS 10:9-14

9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Intro question: What is the best news you have ever received? (Other than the gospel)

PRAY

READ Romans 10:9-14

1. What does this passage say someone needs in order to be saved?

2. What are some of the implications of the fact that a message (something that can be declared and believed in someone’s heart) has the power to save?

3. Thinking about your closest friends and family members who aren’t christians. What opportunities do they have to ‘hear’ the Gospel message? How often would they hear it?

4. Based on this passage, what is misleading about the idea that it might be enough for some people to just ‘live’ the gospel rather than speak it?

5. When you are thinking about sharing the gospel with someone, do you tend to think of it as ‘Good news’ (v15)?What other things are you thinking about it at the point in which you feel nervous about sharing?

Activity

Imagine that you have been sent as a missionary to Sydney to preach the good news.
You’ve been tasked with making disciples but all of the decisions around where you work, how you support yourself (and your family if you have one), where you live, how you spend your time, and how you choose to connect with people are left up to you…

For each of the following decisions, what are two questions you might ask yourself in order to help you decide how you could be most faithful in your call to make disciples?

a) Deciding where and how much to work?

b) Deciding where to live?

c) Deciding how to spend weekends?
d)Deciding what other ways to connect with others outside the Church?

Application

Over this year we want to be prayerfully seeking God’s help in opening doors for the Gospel among those we know.

On Sunday, Jez encouraged us to choose one person to be praying for over the year… It would be great if we could compile a list of those we are praying for to refer back to and pray together for over the year.

Share one person to be praying for. As the leader write down and save the list (and share with the group) so we can be praying for our friends and family over the year.

Pray for these people now.
