BUILD - WEEK 6
REFLECT TO BEGIN
Spend some time reflecting on the series so far. Split into pairs/threes
We are half way through the Foundations series- going through our values and foundations we hold to as a church. So far we have covered that as a church: We hold fast to scripture, We are dependant in prayer, We rejoice in the cross and We are a part of the global mission.
How has God been challenging you so far? What are some of the values that you are most excited about?
Pray briefly in pairs about what is shared and pray for the night as you open the scriptures.
READ
Read through the passage twice in two different versions. Let the group know what the first question is before reading each time.
Read Luke 24:44-49
Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them,
“Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Discuss:
1. What stands out to you about Gods character when reading this passage?
2. How does Jesus explain the gospel message? What are the main elements he includes to communicate the gospel truth?
3. Christ makes a sweeping claim that the whole Bible, from beginning to end, is about him.
Read Isaiah 53:7-10. Using just this one example of the Prophets- how does Jesus fulfil these words? What in this passage gives us hope?
4. When is a time that God personally opened your mind to understand the scriptures? What did he reveal to you and what did he teach you? (maybe in pairs)
5. What does Jesus’ command here in Luke and how do we know it is a global call for us today? Can you recall other scriptures that backs this up?
6. How does Jesus promise to equip us to be his witnesses? How have you seen this play out in your own Christian walk or in Christian communities?
7. “Where did we decide the Great Commission is a matter of calling? That we have to wait for God to call us to do what we have been commanded to do? Every single one of our lives, regardless of what we’ve been called to do, is created for this one purpose. The callings we have in this room are the means by which God accomplishes that purpose in each of our lives…It’s not a matter of calling. We were created, and we have been commanded to be a part of a global mission."- David Platt
(In pairs) Do you regularly think of your lifes purpose as being a part of a God’s global mission? If yes, what have you done to take up this command? If no, how might Jesus be speaking to you/convicting you to hear and respond to his command?
APPLY:
1. As a church we are a part of a global mission. How might this core foundation/value play out for us as a church more in 2025?
2. What are you needing to surrender further in your heart to further take up the command to be a part of the global mission?
PRAY
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Pray that we would be a church that radically takes up the command to be a part of the global mission.
That we would comprehend the truth that we have the Holy Spirt empowering us to be His witness to the end of the earth.
